MilWest- an organization of rail historians and modelers, was established in 1987 as nonprofit corporation, with a common interest in The Milwaukee Road's former "Lines West" and associated lines. This includes all former Milwaukee Road operations, rolling stock, structures, and employees west from Mobridge, South Dakota. The time period of interest is between the beginning of the railroad's Puget Sound extension (authorized in late 1905) to the "embargo"/sale of the remaining lines in 1980 to 1985, and all remaining segments still in operation by successor companies. MilWest was started in Spokane, Washington when a few railfan/modelers got together and decided they wanted to preserve and share some of the greatness that had been the Milwaukee Road "Lines West" with its unique features such as electrification, concrete bridges and five mountain range crossings. It was felt that this subject was not covered in enough depth by other historical organizations. It was decided to hold a meeting on an annual basis. These annual meets are held in the East (Montana) and West (Idaho, Washington) on alternate years. In 1999 MilWest took over the former "Lines West Lines," a newsletter of similar interest published by former Milwaukee employee Darrel DeWald of Alberton, MT, when Darrel decided it was becoming too much of a job for one individual to produce. We were pleased many of his subscribers became MilWest members. Viewing Notes: This site has always been optimized for viewing with Microsoft Internet Explorer™, version 6 or later. We have checked the site in Opera™ version 9.0, and Firefox™ 2.0. We found that all pages worked well except the photo pages. Some of the non-IE browsers did not like the "slide show" format. We have therefore changed the display format of the photos pages and they now appear to work properly in all four browsers. The back issue pages do not show the grid lines in Opera™ which makes it difficult to distinguish the topics in each issue. We can not predict what will happen to any of the pages in older versions of these browsers, or in other web browsers.
