Pre-Snoqualmie tunnel line on the west slope of the Cascade Mountains heading up to Laconia WA. This is approximately where I-90 eastbound now climbs the west slope. I-90 westbound is now across the canyon and would be visible on the mountain in the distance.

"Little Joes" E21 and E73 are eastbound passing the substation at Loweth MT on July 3, 1973. The line was relocated here in 1956 making this the only substation on the system with the track on the "backside" of the substation. The "ditch" in Spokane WA. This was the Milwaukee yard just east of Union Station. This was the Milwaukee's only yard in Spokane until they built the new one adjacent to the new Union Pacific yard east of downtown, in the 1950's. J O One

This plow operation is westbound on a curve east of the former station site of Jeffery SD, midway between Wakpala SD and Mahto SD. This is the main line to the Pacific west of Mobridge SD. This segment runs perpendicular to the prevailing wind direction which allows blizzaeds to fill the cuts. Olsen family photo from March 1966, James Olsen collection.

This is the same plow operaiton. The plow is likely X900207 as that was the last steam rotary assigned to Aberdeen SD. Train #202 is eastbound across I-90 and Johnson Creek on its way to Boyleston WA and the Johnson Creek tunnel on August 16, 1978. The 2nd SD40-2 is #156, the unit painted for the Bicentenial celebration in 1976. It is not on the point as was the normal custom. Mike Prinzhorn photo.
